To our friends and to our Memories family:
As news went out about Nancy MacKinnon, we each experienced the challenging reality of the inevitable: death often arrives with no warning and it is often unfair.
In Nancy’s case, it was both.
In times like these we often hear about losing light and losing positivity. And yes, that’s true here… maybe more true with Nancy than most. Her unfaltering positive attitude, the bright sparkle in her eyes when she smiled at you, the spirited enthusiasm in her voice and laughter, and her hugs… these are now our memories.
But it’s more than positive memories of the light within Nancy or her positivity and how we can no longer get those things from her. Folks: it’s our Nancy! She has already filled that void within us with the immediate reaction from the Memories family. Nancy wasted no time in helping us remember that we are a family, her family. We are a community. And that our community is very, very strong!
If you were at the bar yesterday you know. We saw a group of people come together, for each other, to support one another with whatever strength we had beyond what we needed for ourselves. We held each other. We cried with each other. And we made sure we were ok. That will continue, and we will persevere.
Nancy’s wonderful laughter, her bright smiles and her embracing hugs live in our hearts now, and today it becomes our responsibility to reflect her energy and attitude back towards the people in our lives, to our community, to our family. To each other.
A month from now, a year from now, or ten years from now, we ask you to channel the spirit of Nancy MacKinnon as you interact with others. Maybe that’s driving down 41. Maybe that’s a disagreement with a friend. Maybe that’s meeting a new person. No matter what it is, think of your memory of Nancy and you’ll hear her telling you what to do. That’ll be a reflection of her heart, and you can be sure it’ll be your kindest option.
